Annoyance surged through Birchmask with every step as he stomped toward the medicine den, mindful of his left shoulder despite his current temper. He just had to open his big mouth. It always got him into trouble eventually. Though usually quite the charmer, he had been sensitive and irritable lately. That Gorseclan warrior had it coming though! Muddy.. whatever! It didn’t matter. Though in the moment, fighting her seemed reasonable, he knew he was in for it now. Trouble with Pebblestar was one thing, but the verbal lashing he’d surely receive from Lakefire was far more daunting.
“Hello, brother. Fancy seeing you here.” He attempted a joke as he sat in one of the empty nests inside the den. Perhaps he could get away with no explanation. Have some fun sibling banter, have his wounds treated and go! No trouble here! It wasn’t like he meant to. These situations always seemed to find him. He hated all the strict codes sometimes. Most seemed reasonable for sure, but a few he thought simply ridiculous. While he sincerely enjoyed clan life, it still confused him. Even after living here for some time now. So what if he stepped over the border? Accidentally, even! Somehow it had boiled over into a fight. It was shut down by their own clanmates quickly, but not before he got received a few scratches and a particularly painful bite to his shoulder. Birchmask was slowly becoming more aware of the sting of his wounds as he cooled off.
Though having lived here awhile now, he still was struggling a bit with fitting in. He contributed as much as he could, doing his warrior duties the best he could. Still though, he was beginning to worry he would never feel as comfortable and happy here as he wanted. He supposed he should talk about it, confide in someone and sort out his feelings or whatever. Though he never really was comfortable with those deep talks. It felt like it was impossible to find the right words. The only cat he was close to was Lakefire, but even with his littermate he struggled with such conversation. He pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, for now. Anyway, I’ll live, right?” Humor edged his meow.
