Appearance:
Wind is a lanky tom, though his long fur hides most of his otherwise thin frame. He has pointy ears and a longer snout than your average cat. His pelt is mainly white, with blue-grey along most of back, tail, shoulders, and face. His mackerel stripes are two tones of grey that are overlaid his base coat. Some of these ripple-like stripes leave the confines of these colored patches and weave around his body, mostly around his extremities. One eyebrow is white and the other is blue. His narrow eyes and sharp features can be off-putting to some as he constantly looks irritated and haughty. This is just his face.
Being a newly-graduated water-wader, he bears no scars on his pelt and his fur is unruffled from battle.
Personality
Positive Traits: • Confident in self • Adaptable • Curious | Negative Traits: • Socially awkward • Rebellious • Aloof |
Personality:
Wind is an introverted cat and is clearly the stereotypical version - he is reserved and avoids socializing when he can. Other cats are too hard to read accurately for him, and he doesn't want to accidentally offend or scare someone off because he misinterpreted their vibes. It doesn't help that his resting neutral face is one of slight irritation. Nonetheless, while he isn't very social, he also doesn't mind the company of other cats. He is reasonably confident in himself, or more specifically in his abilities and skills. He knows what he is and is not good at.
Because he spends a lot of time alone - or tries to - he is usually lost in thought. Unfortunately, this also extends to whenever he actually is talking to other cats, particularly if he isn't close with them. If he isn't interested in the conversation or he's being talked over, then he will quietly withdraw within his own head and go off into a daydream. Sometimes he forgets to zone back in and misses some things, but he has gotten a lot better at faking attention. He knows the social cues when someone asks him a question, so at this point he instinctively nods/shakes his head or feigns surprise to satisfy his conversation partners.
In terms of work, Wind is a diligent young cat and willing to learn new things. He may have a feeling that he will not be good at something, but he will almost always try without the other party needing to push him too much. He is also well-mannered and courteous, as he believes this is the only way he can maintain a good relationship with everyone else when he doesn't even talk to them much. However, there are plenty of opinions that he disagrees with, and if he is passionate about it enough, he will quietly act on it.
Skills & Combat
Strengths: • Quick, agile, and stealthy • Strong swimmer; well-trained in water combat • Excellent fisher | Weaknesses: • Not experienced with real battle • Doesn't work too well with teams • In heat of the moment, instincts may take over rational thought |
Character Background
History:
Wind of Coming Storm was born as the single kit in a litter to a pair of Tribe cats, who loved him fiercely. They were on the younger side, and so they would be more playful in their antics and tease each other constantly. His mother, Cloud, was a bit more protective of him than his father, Birch. Birch was eager to show Wind battle techniques at an early age as a sort of head start, but Cloud tutted at her mate and fueled the little kit's curiosity while teaching him the ways of the Tribe. And so, Wind would often play alone, much more interested in examining the smaller details most would gloss over. While Birch disagreed with this approach, he merely shook his head in amusement at his kit; he was happy so long as Wind was happy.
It was decided that Wind would train as a water-wader, and he would train under a she-cat named Fox. The two usually got along well enough, but Wind was rather independent for a to-be and begrudgingly went along with what she said. If she insisted he caught one more fish, he would catch one just barely big enough to be considered a meal for one. If she insisted on sparring for a bit longer after training all day, he would begin playing dirty by spraying pebbles and sand at her face and run away from her. Luckily enough, Fox was lighthearted enough to forgive him for it later. A bit later into his apprenticeship, these shenanigans became banter for the duo, and they are still on good terms today.
The clan cats moved in when he was about halfway through his training. Wind, ever the curious cat, would ask his parents and his mentor constantly about the new, scraggly-looking groups. Much to his surprise, one of these new cats arrived in their lands and revealed himself to have formerly been of the Tribe of Ancient Roots - what they called themselves, before he was born. Wind was a bit intimidated by his appearance and learned about the clans by eavesdropping on the conversations he had. Wind's interest in the clan cats only grew the more he heard about them, and he actually interacted with one when he came to talk about... something with his ancestors on Tribe land.
Now that he has graduated as a full water-wader, he finds himself with more freedom than he had as a to-be. He often sneaks out at night alone to sit at the borders separating the Tribe from Mossclan and Gorseclan. He may get caught eventually, he's aware, but for now he'll take every chance to learn about these clans that have caused a ripple in their daily lives.
