Doekip gruinted as she braced herself against a particularly harsh breeze that rolled through the sloping moores. Large ears flat on her head and eyes squinted as sand was pelted at her face, the small molly was quick to dive into a cave created by a large boulder and moss. In that moment, as she want the grass rustle and sway, she began to question on earth she decided that staying with the clans as a healer was a good idea. she only knew unorthodox ways oh healing! already aspenstar had, had to correct her on her method of healing - andn ow she was out here foraging for starclan knows what with a slightly nipping breeze pinching her back.
Shaking her head with a growled out grunt, doeskip reflected on starclan and all that she knew...or rather, all that she didn't know. she had been visisted only once by these mystical cats yet nothing really ever came out of it. when she had taken aspenstar to recieve his nine lives - he awoke as though he had just been through another gruelling journey, alongside the energy around him being completely shifted, yet that all meant nothing to doeskip.
all she felt was apprehension towards her future. How long would it take until the clan realized she didn't get any messages from the stars? how long would it take for her to be chased out from the clan and a place she came to call her home?
"get a grip." she muttered to herself, poking her head out from herhiding spot once the worst of the wind had passed, "you know there is at least one other cat amongst the clan that knows herbs and has contact with starclan. it's just sucking up the courage to ask them to be your...interpreter." Shaking her head in disbelief at her own train of thought, doeskip failed to notice the pws trotting up towards her whilst she inspected some bright red berries.

Starlingleaf carefully skimmed her paws over the rough pebbles that littered the ground. Although she hadn't become fully acquainted with Gorseclan territory yet, the terrain was familiar. The heath was dry, arid, and exposed to the elements, just as the desert was, but it felt more forgiving. Today seemed especially windy. She blinked the sand away and lowered herself closer to the ground, forging onward.
A solo patrol... a rather unorthodox setup, but times were tough. Gorseclan did not have cats to spare. It was one of the reasons she chose to take up warrior duties once again. She paused in the middle of her stride, tasting the air to ensure she was still on the right track. She was. Satisfied, she continued, weaving around a few small rock formations. A solo patrol, but she would not be alone for much longer. Aspenstar had sent her on the trail of Doeskip, the loner-turned-medicine cat. Doeskip may know the heath better than Starlingleaf, or any of the other clan-born cats, but he felt it best another warrior followed her—especially when rogue activity was still high.
The wind was less harsh here. The rock formations stretched ever higher and increased in number the deeper into the valley she went. Doeskip's scent was strong. Perhaps she went looking for shelter in a crevice while foraging? Starlingleaf slowed her steps, never quite stopping as she looked around and twitched her ears. Where could the medicine cat be...? Ah, there.
She spotted Doeskip near a mossy boulder, investigating a plant with... red? Berries? Did deathberries grow here? In the old territories, deathberries could be found even within Valeclan's borders. It would not surprise her if they could take root here, or if they were a new plant entirely. Starlingleaf strode towards Doeskip; the small molly was muttering something to herself while peering at the plant. She hadn't been noticed yet. Perhaps she should announce her presence now.
Starlingleaf stopped a few tail-lengths away from Doeskip and spoke, her voice raised against the wind. "Have you found anything of note yet?"

The sudden sound of a voice being carried by the wind startled the sandy Molly enough for her fur to raise along her back and for her tail to puff out. Whipping around with flattened ears, Doeskip paused when she saw the familiar face of Starlingleaf.
"Fox dung...You really know how to startle a cat, y'know that?" She huffed out, pelt warming at how she had been caught so off-guard despite being downwind of the others scent. Maybe she really had gone soft after taking on the role of a medicine cat. Though, she pondered, it was a strong occurrence in her life which allowed her to relax in a place she could call home. The Blue Bloods were long gone and so were the other rouge groups so...it couldn't be that bad of a sign that she was able to now relax.
"I found some Burdock Root - useful is anyone gets in a fight with any of the rats that are still lingering around here." With a swish of her tail, Doeskip revealed a small pile of herbs - all looking slightly worse for wear but overall satisfactory. "Also got some Burnet, strength, and Chamomile, if anyone happens to get a bit stressed."
Sitting on her haunches the young Molly eyed the pile with a slightly pensive look before turning back to the red berries she had been investigating. "I haven't seen these before though. Or at least, I don't tend to see them very often. However I don't think they should be growing here. The leaves are very limp and the berries themselves don't seem to be in the best condition."
Surveying the terrain around the two of them, she shrugged. "I'm assuming they need a bit more water than what we can provide so they're probably no use to us." Refusing to acknowledge how backwards her logic was, Doeskip turned suddenly onto Starlingleaf, eyes narrowed.
"What do you know about medicine and can you help me?" The tone of her voice was almost accusatory, as if daring to ask for a help was more of an insult than done out of hope. |

Starlingleaf steadily held Doeskip's gaze, almost unsurprised about the question. She figured that she would be approached some time or another about this matter. After a moment, she looked away without saying a word, but only to instead fix her discerning eyes on the gathered herbs. As Doeskip said, they weren't the highest quality, but they would work--and that was what mattered. Then her eyes moved further and settled on the red berries.
"Those are deathberries," she said plainly. "They are highly poisonous to most living things and can kill a cat within minutes. But only the seeds, though." Then she flicked her gaze back to Doeskip. "We can leave them here to grow. They may still have their uses yet."
Starlingleaf sat down, at ease but still attentive. She had met--very briefly--the other medicine cats to pass on the mantle and assist their clans as they grew used to the role. How bizarre that Starclan had chosen to speak to loners and only loners... but she would not make an attempt to understand the ancestors' thinking. It wasn't like it was the first time they had spoken to someone who had never trained in medicine before.
She sighed deeply, blinking slowly and returning to the question Doeskip had asked. These were busy times. As one of the most experienced cats in the clan, a lot of responsibilities had fallen on her shoulders. But... she could help. Maybe. Her face became resigned as she spoke.
"I was a medicine cat in the old territories, but I am a warrior now. Surely you've been learning with your peers? In your dreams with Starclan?"
